Past Continuous: Affirmative

Acciones en progreso en el pasado

1. Group: WAS (Singular)

2. Group: WERE (Plural)

⚙️ Spelling Rules (-ing)

General Rule Solo añade -ing al verbo.
Play ➔ Playing / Work ➔ Working

Ends in -E Elimina la 'e' y añade -ing.
Dance ➔ Dancing / Write ➔ Writing

CVC (1 Syllable) Dobla la consonante final.
Run ➔ Running / Swim ➔ Swimming

Past Continuous: Negative

Acciones que NO estaban ocurriendo

1. Group: WASN'T (Singular)

2. Group: WEREN'T (Plural)

💡 Contractions

En inglés hablado, casi siempre usamos las formas contraídas:
• Was not ➔ Wasn't
• Were not ➔ Weren't

Past Continuous: Questions

¿Qué estaba ocurriendo?

1. Singular: WAS...?

2. Plural: WERE...?

💬 Short Answers

Affirmative (+) Yes, I was. / Yes, they were.

Negative (-) No, I wasn't. / No, they weren't.

Past Continuous: Structural Summary

S + was/were + V-ing

I was working

S + wasn't/weren't + V-ing

She wasn't sleeping

01. INTERRUPTION

Using While

WHILE + Continuous , Simple

While she was driving, she hit a tree.

La acción en proceso (was driving) es interrumpida por un evento puntual (hit). El "While" siempre encabeza la duración.

02. INTERRUPTION

Using When

Continuous + WHEN + Simple

She was driving when she hit a tree.

Misma lógica que la anterior, pero aquí el "When" funciona como el detonante que introduce la acción corta que corta la historia.

03. PARALLEL ACTIONS

Simultaneity (No Interruption)

WHILE + Continuous , Continuous

While I was studying, my roommate was playing music.

Aquí no hay choque. Son dos personas haciendo dos cosas largas al mismo tiempo. Ambas acciones mantienen el Past Continuous.

Mixed Past: Simple & Continuous
